When Forms Come Alive
This exhibition brings together sculptures by 21 artists inspired by movement, flow and growth. Instead of the solidity and timelessness of traditional sculpture, their works, which are mostly drawn from irregular forms in nature, display a spirit of change and transformation. The sculptures seem to come alive with dynamism, some writhing, undulating and flowing, others vibrant.
Through the sensual textures and surprising physical properties of their works, the artists invite us to view them with a tactile eye, as if our eyes could touch and feel them directly. In an age of increasing digitisation and virtualisation, these artists reinvigorate our exploration of the tangible forms around us. They often see their work as a collaboration with different materials and processes, reminding us that everything in the world is in constant motion, agitation, and transformation.
The device in Figure 2 is partly made up of foam that is slowly being spat out by the machine; it is a dynamic sculpture, even if that dynamic is very slow and imperceptible. I really like this piece, I find it very interesting.
Another piece I really liked was 'Epiphany on chairs',It is created by Franz West,an Asian artist. This big pink ball looks a bit like a virus, like a planet, and also like the origin of many life forms. Sitting in a chair in front of the big pink ball, looking at this behemoth that seems to be the beginning of everything, the epiphanies are thought-provoking. I loved the concept.
